HOW’S THAT WORKIN’ FOR YA?

0706210040: You’ve heard the old saying “an overactive imagination”? Well you simply need to replace the word imagination with reality in my case (assuming* I live in reality, ha!). Isn’t that something? To have an overactive (predisposition towards) reality**? How’s that workin’ for ya?

**You could say of scientists… that may very well be their greatest attribute.

Two things I was told in my 1st few months of sobriety:

1) What you focus on you give power to;

2) The bitch about working a program in… is that (many of) the people you deal with in the world don’t have one.

Both of these have turned out to be the bane of my existence/recovery – thank you God (for the “heads-up” early on)!

IT’S A DIRTY JOB! BUT…

0706210736: As I had stated some decades before, “I tend to live in a world, in my mind, many people would prefer to run away from, or not think about at all”. But after all, (doesn’t) someone have to look at the cold, hard, unappealing facts of life! Perhaps it is why I feel depressed much of the time 🤔

THE HEART OF THE MATTER

0706210048: Somewhere in these writings… they are probably fueled in part by some self-centeredness on my part. But also a deep desire to aid my fellow human beings. Or perhaps, to help myself – and then simply pass them on.

IN THE BEGINNING…

0706210809: It was spring or fall (most likely) of 1991. I remember standing in line @ Smith’s grocery store glancing over @ an Enquirer magazine or Us… between registers when all of a sudden an explosion of insights hit me. Looking back on that day – having had time to process it all*… I figured it was my mind awakening via:

Freedom from drugs and alcohol for the past 19 or 20 months, or;

The past 7 or 8 months @ the University where the classroom environment awakened something dormant in me (in my formative years I was a horrible student; or so I thought 🤔), or;

My intrigue with uncommon sense, as to my mind I had very little of even the precious commodity known as common sense (still don’t lol), or;

For my first several years in a recovery program I was almost insanely honest and perhaps this was my reward (or punishment lol) from some thing or some one?

In any event, since that day it has never really left me! You’ve heard of “Conversations with God” (Neale Donald Walsch)? Well I sometimes refer to these simply as “Thoughts from God”, or, “Everything You Didn’t Want to Know but weren’t Afraid to Ask”.

*Never give an alcoholic too much time to think as you are more apt to get the true, raw, essence out of them.
