Yesterday I had a bad day.** I decided to swing by the bookstore anyways -just to get out of the house, clear my head… After picking out a couple of movies I walked back to the car to get my wallet and saw something shining in the rocks next to the building. The angle of the penny to the sun, from where I was standing was perfect -like a mirror reflecting the sun in my eyes. I wanted to take a picture of it so I walked to the car and got my phone and came back. After having taken the picture I proceeded to pick up the penny and then saw another, and another, and another. There must have been 30 or so spread out in the rocks, some facing upward and some facing downward. I picked up approximately 20*** of them facing upward while with my fingers I turned the other 8, 9, or 10 over so they would be upright for the next passer by. I placed those I had picked up in my pocket, then went back into the bookstore to pay for my DVD’s. As I walked back to the parking lot, along the sidewalk which ran parallel to those rocks, there was another penny right there in the area where the other pennies were, turned right side up, and right in my path (which, without thinking, I placed in my pocket with the others).**** In the back of my mind I was thinking 21 (3 X 7 = 21 “7 is a good number” God’s?). Anyways, on the way home, the numbers 23 or 24 started appearing in my mind (I was anxious to get home and count them). Incidentally, I had reached in my pocket to pull back out that one that was on the sidewalk because it was special -after I slid it down the back side of my pocket earlier, I reached back into the same area to pull it out. I vaguely remembered what it looked like and that I had placed it in my pocket with heads facing to the front of me. So I slid my index finger, and thumb down into that area and pulled out the penny nearest to my thigh – It looked just like it, and sure enough it was heads facing forwards. So when I got home I placed them all on top of a cardboard board box I have sitting in my living room. The pile of coins to the right and the one to the left. When I counted them there was a total of 20 + 1.
*After arriving home from work, my grandmother would often tell me about the lucky-penny she found on the sidewalk or elsewhere -that God had given her that day. This tradition appears to have been passed down to me š
**Many times in the past, during my most difficult struggles -God gives me a lucky-penny. It might be on the sidewalk, it might be on the counter at a grocery storeā¦ but it is always heads up -and sometimes two (or 3) in a day.
***Now that’s a new record (previous record 3 -twice š) -for sure! š¤
****Between the pennies that were already turned up, and those face-down which I had turned up, I got a bit confused āa time or two š. So, I asked God “OK, which one is which (bad luck to pick up a penny you yourself turned “heads-up” eh)”. Well figuring it was a lost cause, and that I simply had to do the best I couldā¦ I put the coins in my pocket and went inside, as I stated above, to pay for my DVD’s. Now remember, I felt I may have shortchanged myself one or two. That’s when I came back out of the store and found that one penny directly next to the rocks where I had found the others -sitting face up, on the sidewalk along the building, directly in my path. GOD!!!! š
